The best shampoo for Scalp Psoriasis

Psoriasis isn’t something that affects only feet and hands-Red, scaly and bumpy skin plaques can appear almost anywhere on the body and even in the scalp. Fortunately the problem here is almost unnoticeable if you have thick hair, but it still needs treatment to keep it under control.

One of the most common ways to treat your scalp Psoriasis is by using a specialized shampoo designed to decrease the painful scaly plagues on your skin surface. These type of shampoos most probably contain:

  • Tar or salicylic acid which are chemicals derived from natural sources that help exfoliate the skin and make it heal faster.
  • Some essential oils or carrier oils like Rosemary, Tea tree oil and Jojoba can also be mixed with your regular shampoo for milder skin conditions.
  • Menthol is also a common ingredient in these type of shampoos because it helps reduce scalp itching.

It is important to choose a mild shampoo that doesn’t contain any harsh chemicals or sulfates that strip the hair from its natural oils hair because you may cause more problems in the long run. Shampoos are most commonly available in liquid form but we have found that soap bars containing any of these ingredients are also found in the market and work just as good to keep scalp psoriasis under control. Unfortunately most of these kinds of shampoos are only designed for scalp use and not for your hair so in order to keep your hair healthy also, you can use a moisturizing or repairing treatment weekly on your hair tips.

However, in most severe cases Shampoo will probably have little to no effect at treating the skin and some more drastic improvements are suggested. Dermatologists often treat the problem with topical steroid injections although these are not totally safe and are used only in severe cases that fail to respond in other types of treatments. Some psoriasis symptoms are also accompanied with Fungal infections and irritation of lymph nodes so your doctor will most probably prescribe an anti-fungal or cortisone to treat these problems individually.

If you are in a doubt on how severe your case is or how to treat your symptoms you should definitely consult your doctor and avoid making experiments on your own. Your doctor will be able to diagnose the condition properly and discuss the right treatment options for your individual symptoms.

  • Psoriasis is a very rare but very irritating skin condition. It gets worse on the scalp. I read this post a few months ago and tried this shampoo. It helped me cure my psoriasis on the scalp a lot. It works guys. You must give it a try once.

  • The symptoms of psoriasis vary depending on the type you have. It may be mild or may be little also. Treatment depends on its severity. People who suffer from psoriasis know that this uncomfortable and at times disfiguring skin disease can be difficult and frustrating to treat.

  • Do you know Psoriasis is a communicable disease too? Be aware, you may also get it from your friends. Prevention is better than cure! Though, It is very uncommon for the scalp area but it may spread up to there. It can be mild.

    • Please remove this post! Psoriasis is not a communicable disease and people should not be allowed to spread misinformation about it.
"Scientists believe that at least 10 percent of people inherit one or more of the genes that could eventually lead to psoriasis. However, only 2 percent to 3 percent of the population develops the disease. Researchers believe that for a person to develop psoriasis, that person must have a combination of the genes that cause psoriasis and be exposed to specific external factors known as “triggers.” -https://www.psoriasis.org/about-psoriasis/causes

      As per the mayo clinic:
DEFINITION: "Psoriasis is a common skin condition that changes the life cycle of skin cells. Psoriasis causes cells to build up rapidly on the surface of the skin. The extra skin cells form thick, silvery scales and itchy, dry, red patches that are sometimes painful."

CAUSES: The cause of psoriasis isn't fully known, but it's thought to be related to an immune system problem with cells in your body. More specifically, one key cell is a type of white blood cell called a T lymphocyte or T cell. Normally, T cells travel throughout the body to detect and fight off foreign substances, such as viruses or bacteria. If you have psoriasis, however, the T cells attack healthy skin cells by mistake, as if to heal a wound or to fight an infection.

  • I have had horrible scalp psoriasis for years which brought on great emotional stress. When I combed my hair, clumps of hair used to come off with the scales leaving the area raw and burning like fire. The constant itching made me scratch my skin until it became raw and often bled staining my clothes and bed sheet. I had the psoriasis symptoms for well over 5 years and the steroids I was using on my forehead cause my skin to thin. It also formed small holes that was filled with white gooey stuff which came out when I squeezed it. I found a natural remedy where i had to go detoxification to clear my body of all the poisons that had accumulated over years and then building up my immune system. The problem has not yet been cured but the respite is so profound that i have found my confidence back and can use a mild product for my hair which have started looking in the past few years.
