Tea Tree Oil – Natures way to heal Acne

I speak from experience when I say having a spot or two can ruin my mood, it can make me feel incredibly self-conscious, as if everyone is looking at them, analysing and in my younger years should I get a break out it would knock my confidence considerably.  Even now, as I have gotten older I really don’t take kindly to getting spots and I don’t know anyone who does.

Acne is a very common skin condition that affects most people at some point in their lives. It causes spots to develop on the skin be it the face, chest or back and can lead to no end of misery for the individual. There are many products nowadays which have been developed to aid, soothe and in many cases rid of acne altogether. Tea tree oil is amongst nature’s helping hands at keeping acne at bay.

But why is it so beneficial?

Tea tree oil is an essential oil, derived from the leaves of the elaleuca alternifolia, a plant native to Australia. It contains something called terpinen-4-ol that is thought to kill microorganisms or at least inhibit their growth and because of this, by applying tea tree oil to spots and in particular on acne lesions, it kills the bacteria deep in the pores which is responsible for these breakouts. Tea tree oil is incredibly soothing and cleansing with its unique disinfecting qualities. There are many other products on the market used to treat acne which will strip the skin of its natural oils, leaving it dry and flaky and in some cases incredibly itchy. The natural properties of tea tree oil work with your skin to battle breakouts and keep acne at bay.

You can buy tea tree oil in your local health store and you should purchase the 100% pure tea tree oil.

How to apply

  1. Always make sure your skin is clean and dry so remove any make up beforehand.
  2. Pour a few drops onto a cotton bud or cotton pad.
  3. Gently dab the oil onto any spots or problems areas.
  4. Leave for a few hours or overnight while you are sleeping.

The redness and swelling of any problematic areas should decrease. Remember a little oil goes a long way and the smallest amount will help to unblock the sebaceous glands, disinfect the pores, dry out whiteheads and blackheads and any other blemishes.
